Abstract: The delignification of rye straw with diluted (1,0-2,0%) aqueous HNO 3 solutions has been studied. The dependence of the degree of delignification on the digestion temperature has been shown to have a maximum in the 80-100 0 C range. The search for rational digestion parameters is directed by the competition between the processes of nitration (oxidation) of Iignin and the reactions of carbohydrates with nitric acid. A reaction regime has been found that provides the - 44% yield of unbleached cellulose having the Kappa number of -10 units. The nitric acid rye straw cellulose shows acceptable strength indices and can be used in paper and cardboard compositions.
