Abstract: The Thomas precession in general relativity is considered. The tetrad method is used for an introduction of local Lorentz frames and a detailed analysis of local Lorentz transformations. Equations of motion in local Lorentz frames are formulated with the use of the Pomeransky-Khriplovich gravitoelectromagnetic fields. The local Lorentz transformations of these fields are determined. The general equation for the Thomas precession in Riemannian spacetimes is rigorously derived. Manifestations of Thomas e˙ect in the Minkowski spacetime and curved spacetimes are compared.
