Abstract

The subject of present study was polyps of duodenum. The purpose of our work was to evaluate the epidemiology, clinical manifestations, morphological structure, localization of duodenal polyps and also to determine efficiency of the main methods of their management. As a result of our work we have established that, the prevalence of duodenal polyps was 0.15%. In addition to hyperplastic polyps, other nosological entities have been identified, such as carcinoid, tubular adenoma, the erosion of duodenum with dysplasia (D1-D2), lipoma. It was found that the increase of acidity is one of the most significant etiological factors affecting the change in the morphological structure of the polyps of duodenal bulb. The significant relationship was revealed between the development of polyps in the area of major duodenal papilla and the presence of pathology of the biliary system. According to our results, most frequently polyps were found in the duodenal bulb (83%). In the study group clinical symptoms were absent in 66, 7% of patients. The use of proton pump inhibitors can accelerate the onset of epithelialization after polypectomy.
