Abstract: The investigation of scale inhibitors based on the carboxylic acids with different molecular weight was carried out. Polyacrylic acid (PAA) with a molecular weight of 2000–5000 was found to be the most effective inhibitor. PAA was shown to adsorb on the surface of the forming scale crystals, thus reducing the amount of the resulting stable phase and distorting proper crystal growth. Recommendations on the use of PAA as a scale inhibitor were given.
