Abstract: The article shows the normative and practical contradictions caused by sanctions from the standpoint of in private international law. The author refers to the example of intellectual property relations and analyzes the features of the application of norms and mechanisms of conflict of law and material regulation in conditions of sanctions, taking into account the territoriality of intellectual property rights. Conclusions are drawn about the certain patterns as constantly reoccurring outcomes of sanctions affecting intellectual property. The preferred legal techniques for overcoming the corresponding consequences are outlined.
