Abstract:	В статье рассматриваются условия и степень участия молодежи в оборонных работах на территории Белостокской и Брестской областей накануне Великой Отечественной войны. Отмечено, что партийные, советские и военные власти придавали огромное значение оборонным работам и для их выполнения было задействовано большое количество трудовых и материальных ресурсов. Одними из первых в западных областях БССР к работам на объектах специального строительства приступили комсомольские батальоны. Автор пришел к выводу, что несмотря на принимаемые меры, негативные явления на оборонном строительстве имели место до самого начала войны и не позволили завершить подготовку территории БССР к боевым действиям.
Abstract (in another language):	Тhe article examines the conditions and extent of youth participation in defense of the Bialystok and Brest regions on the eve of the Great Patriotic War. It was noted that the party, Soviet and military authorities attached great importance to defense and a large amount of labor and material resources were involved into their implementation. Komsomol battalions were among the first in the western regions of the BSSR to begin work on special construction sites. The author came to the conclusion that despite the measures taken, negative phenomena in defense took place before the very beginning of the war and did not allow to complete the preparation for hostilities on the territory of the BSSR.
