Development of a vertical gardening system in Minsk city

Abstract

A vertical gardening system has been developed for the State Educational Institution «Gymnasium № 74 of Minsk» administrative building. A spatial analysis of Minsk’s territory was carried out, during which ecological and urban planning features of city’s administrative districts were studied. A map of optimal territories for creating a vertical gardening system within Minsk city borders has been obtained. A detailed phytomodule design process was developed, which included several paragraphs responsible for each element of the system. A metal frame equipped with pocket-type containers and a drip irrigation system became the basis of the vertical plant installation. Vermiculite and perlite mixture was selected as a main substrate, and the plant assortment includes 24 species classified into several functional categories
