Abstract: glow discharge with a hollow cathode at the temperatures 600–700°C for 3 h was carried out. By means of X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy the change in the phase composition of titanium after nitriding has been revealed. Increase in the nitriding temperature from 600 to 700°C results in the rising of the volume fraction of nitride phase TiN, Ti2N, and TiN0.3. The results showed the threefold increase in the microhardness and the twentyfold increase in the wear resistance as compared to untreated titanium.
