Abstract (in another language): | Single-charged Fe ions with energy of 40 keV were implanted into (001)-oriented single crystal rutile TiO2 plates with a fluence of 1.5×10 17 ion/cm2 at elevated temperature (900 K) of substrate. The obtained TiO2 based nanocomposite layers with implanted iron impurity were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Rutherford backscattering spectrometry (RBS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and coil magnetometry. The implanted iron impurity exhibits a double-humped depth distribution function with a “tail” of concentration extended into the sample’s volume, according to RBS and XPS analysis. The first concentration peak was attributed to the formation of superparamagnetic nanoparticles with a complex composition: magnetic core (Fe0) - nonmagnetic shell (Fe2O3) in the irradiated surface layer of rutile. Ion-synthesized nanoparticles with a complex composition cause superparamagnetic behavior of samples at room temperature. The second concentration peak is formed as a result of impurity diffusion along structural channels in rutile and is caused by accumulation process of impurity in the form of metallic iron atoms at the interface: the implanted/non-implanted region of rutile. The “tail” of the iron impurity distribution function is related to the deepend metal atoms which are localized in the structural channels of rutile. |
