| Abstract: | The paper considers grammatical and semantic characteristics of French and Latin borrowings which function in English popular scientific text. It is shown that most of the borrowings belong to nouns, adjectives and verbs. Using definition, logical and contextual methods, the authors have identified a number of semantic classes and subclasses of the lexical units under study, most of which are common for both the languages. Means of translating the borrowings into Russian are also considered |
