Abstract

The article deals with the creative work of Howard Phillips Lovecraft, who is one of the most influential figures of American neogothic literature. His works are notable for the close interconnection of all the plots, which is achieved through the elaborate fictional mythology created by the writer. Lovecraft’s works are quite diverse in genre – gothic novellas, science-fiction novels, mythological stories among them. This rich diversity of the author’s creative work presents an opportunity to use different approaches to analyzing his writings – linguostylistic, archetypal, biographical. Lovecraft’s literary heritage has influenced not only the development of literature, but of other spheres of culture, such as creation of computer games.
