| Abstract: | The paper presents a retrospective review of research in phraseology, in particular that of Eng-lish Phraseology, under the influence of such mainstream trends in linguistics as the theory of nom-ination, cultural linguistics, cognitive linguistics, communicative linguistics, etc. Research in phraseology from the perspective of these trends provided important data about the mechanism of formation of phraseological units as units of secondary nomination, about the reflection in phrase-ology of national culture through linguistic-cultural concepts, specific mentality of that language speakers, as well as evidence of social changes discovered through phraseology. Considered are methods of revealing these data. |
