Puritanism and islamism — a comparative perspective

Abstract

At the very beginning a question arises as to whether this comparison makes sense1. The fact that everything can be compared is universally recognized, but the point is it resulted in something inspiring, something pushing forward our comprehension of the world and retaining the predictive value for the future. From the viewpoint of specific, distinctive historical, political science or even sociological analogies, the case seems to be questionable. What could the 16th-century and 17th-century reformation trend possibly have in common with the 20th-century and 21st-century aspirations to set an old tradition into the modernised world.
