Abstract: | "The Development of Cultural Relations of Belarus with the Countries of Central and Western Europe (1985—1991)" This study looks into the problems of the development of cultural relations of Belarus with the countries of Central and Western Europe in the period of 1985—1991. The article analyses the cultural policy of the party and the government in the late 80s and treats the causes of its change. The internal factors, which are noted as having influenced the liberalization of the official course in the sphere of international cultural contacts, are the spread of Belarusian national movement, the rise of the interest of the young people in foreign art and the increase of the foreign communities' assistance in Belarus in the elimination of the Chernobyl disaster consequences.
