Polish Social Democracy emerged due to the reorganization of the Communist Party that had been the only ruling party in the country for 45 years. The SDRP had to reconsider radically the foreign policy of the new party. After some hesitation, it rejected the one-sided Eastern orientation and aimed at integration with the West. As a result, Poland has joined the NATO and is gradually integrating into the Western community.ru
