Синтаксические способы репрезентации тождества в современном английском языке

Abstract

The article deals with the peculiarities of expressing the category of identity with the help of the construction of equality “X is Y”, as well as gives profound analysis of the modal semantic components expressed by the mentioned construction. The research is aimed at revealing the absence of absolute correlation between the surface (syntactic) structure and the deep (semantic) structure of a sentence constructed on the basis of the model of compound nominal predicate. The structure “X is Y” represents not only the identifying meaning, but also a wide range of other semantic components, including modal ones
