This article is devoted to identifying the suggestive potential in political discourse by analyzing the suggestive richness of political texts (based on the speeches of American presidents. This article examines the definition of the term 'metaphor' particularly context of political discourse. Do metaphors really influence the audience? What types of metaphors are preferable by the speakers? These questions defined the topic of the research. Taking into account the previously established classifications of different authors, a universal classification of metaphorical models as well as sociopolitical profile of each leader was made. The author proves that the choice of metaphors in political speech can characterize the speaker, his mentality and lifestyle. A conclusion was made that as far as different politicians put different accents in their speeches and use various metaphorical models, it can help to create ideal speeches, which will be rather emotional and expressive and will reflect our individuality and behavior.
