Abstract: A new mathematical model of an excitable cell membrane is proposed. Based on the Poisson - Nernst - Plank electrodiffusion theory and on the Hodgkin - Huxley equations this model allows to calculate the distribution of electric potential and ionic concentrations in the ionic channels as well as in solutions near the membrane. These data can be obtained both in the resting state and during action potential generation.
