Abstract

The article recounts the first historical references to the great city of Babylon and describes the archeological periods the city has gone through. The author gives a detailed account of the historiography of both foreign archeological excavations and the excavations arranged by Iraqi national expeditions to research the city ruins. The emphasis is placed on the advances of particular excavations and their history is set out in the chronological order. = Анализируются первые исторические упоминания о великом городе Вавилоне и об археологических периодах, связанных с этим городом. Описывается историография как иностранных раскопок, так и проведенных иракскими экспедициями, исследующими руины города. Делается акцент на достижениях тех или иных раскопок, история которых излагается в хронологическом порядке.
