Abstract: Previous findings have suggested that social cognition are affected in individuals with schizophrenia. The aim of this study was to investigate emotion recognition deficits in groups of schizophrenic patients and their unaffected mothers. Fifty eight schizophrenia patients’ mothers and 51 healthy age-matched women, 65 patients with schizophrenia and 53 healthy age-matched males completed the Face Memory Task and Face Recognition Task with a set of 40 photographs of faces including the five universal emotions as well as neutral faces. Results: schizophrenia patients performed worse than control male group in most of parameters of face memory and emotion recognition (p<0,05). The performance in the schizophrenia patients’ mothers group fell between the patients and healthy controls. Also they demonstrate impairment in recognition of fearful and angry faces, but their accuracy was less different from that of controls. Conclusion: the impairment in face recognition can be perceived as potential endophenotypes of schizophrenia.
